COMPOSITION:
Pantoprazole 40mg.
Description
Pantoprazole is a synthetic proton pump
inhibitor that belongs to the class of substituted benzimidazoles and functions
as a long-lasting inhibitor of gastric acid secretion. This drug is used in the
treatment of different types of ulcers. High levels of stomach acid lead to
several complications such as difficulty in swallowing, persistent cough,
sleeplessness, and heartburn. Proton pump inhibition is considered to be the
best form of treatment for ulcers because blocking the proton pump would
prevent the acid formation and alleviate the above-mentioned symptoms, at a
faster rate.
Pantoprazole prevents the gastric acid
secretion in the stomach by blocking the proton pumps of the parietal cells.
Pantoprazoleis activated in the acidic environment. Once it is activated in the
parietal cells, pantoprazole inhibits the activity of H+ /K+ ATPase, an enzyme
which acidifies the stomach by causing the influx of hydrogen ions into the
stomach. Pantoprazole is exclusively metabolized in the hepatic system. In most
cases, the symptoms are alleviated in 2 weeks’ time.

NSAID-induced gastric ulcers.

Hypersecretory disorders.

Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome

Crohn’s Disease-associated Ulcers.
